Following the success of Nantucket Kitchen & Bar and NKB Express, this third instalment from TJ and Kim Peabody family is an intimate nod to the nostalgic cuisine of yesteryear, set to transport diners back in time to an age of relaxed, fine dining where comfort food is plentiful and pleasure is king.

The sleek older brother to The Barracks’ Nativo Kitchen & Wine Bar, Nickel’s retro inspired classics are the brainchild of TJ Peabody and talented head chef Gordon MacGregor.

Departing from traditional menus based in culture, Chef Gordon’s creations are designed to tell a story. From flavours inspired by childhood memories to the presentation of a dish, every plate at Nickel Kitchen & Bar represents a creative interpretation of fresh, seasonal fare.

The menu serves as an homage to TJ’s memories of sharing long lunches with his father, a throwback to the golden age of fine dining where business was conducted over a steak and cigars and chandeliers were the height of luxury.

This dedication to fine dining is echoed in every method of Chef Gordon’s work – from visiting to the Brisbane Markets for in-season produce to the incorporation of different elements and textures within a dish.

The antithesis to the casual and light-flooded interiors of big sister NKB Express, Nickel Kitchen & Bar will transport you back to the sultry Art Deco elegance of The Orient Express, with rich mahogany features, comfortable leather lounges and soft mood lighting, compliments of a spectacular custom made, wine glass chandelier. It’s the kind of place you can take off your tie, put your elbows on the table and get down to the business of indulgence.
